Erosion (2026)

The earth of this site has only about 2-3 inches of top soil, under neat is stone and utilities. Somehow in this angled location native plants will populate when UIC grounds doesn’t mow and remove the weeds even with little top soil.

These art objects signify a historic site, an in-between.

Photography has an in-between, for film, its the photons enter the gate momentarily and they rest there in the dark until they are chemically treated to react at those sites where they landed. In the darkroom light is flooded through a small lens and it illuminates a frame, a frame that holds the paper in place to make sure there is an even exposure.

To make a print the light needs to expose the silver long enough to get enough contrast.

If the frame moves it will be come blurry, but if its a long exposure, if the frame is place back to its original position the image will only have some minor deviations, the image will still have sharp edges.

Some images take a long time to make an impression, in some ways, film is made to speed up this process, contain the photons, and sometimes through harsh processes the image is revealed. Is it worth that moment to make something close to what our eyes have seen, to really image something? Maybe photons need too work longer. A day, a week, a month, a lifetime? maybe we have yet to see what an image can actually be.
