they/them

I’m a multimedia artist born in 1980, based in Chicago. I have experienced pain and confusion from neglect throughout my life, as well as the physical and mental health issues that relate. Because of this, my social life and identity is a difficult, but practicing art has been the most productive method for finding myself. I like to research time, the idea of perfection, performance, and why these concepts hold so much for me, even though I realize they are subjective. Process and making visual and audio art has always taken precedence over completing work, and being an “artist.” Practicing, studying, and making are all important to me. I’m influenced by journalism, story telling, and simplicity. I look to the past in hopes to understand the present, and hope for the future to be filled with progress.

While analog photography and cinema fill most of my portfolio, I am not limited, and utilize whatever mediums that work best for each project. The more I learn, the more I dissect my understanding of self, where I came from, and whom I will be within my work. As I discover, I also gain direction to search for more. I am unlearning my unlearning.
